As an Assembly & Test Manager at our Salt Lake City, UT site you’ll be responsible for leading and managing a 2-shift Assembly and Test organization according to Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost standards to ensure reliable on-time delivery to our customers. You will champion site vision for Operational Excellence, through relentless pursuit of quality, and collaborate with Value Stream Managers to implement a Lean Business System across operations that cultivates a continuous improvement mindset.
As part of the leadership of the site, the Assembly and Test Manager shares responsibility for development and implementation of a site strategy consistent with site vision: “A modern factory that instills customer confidence, leadership that provides employees with an enjoyable work experience, and consistent work flow to create reliable products at a rate of return consistent with Business Unit and Group strategies.”
Here’s what you’ll work on:
- Lead within the Moog Culture and Values. Maintain a positive, hands-on leadership presence on the production floor, providing in-person and through subordinates, management and technical directions to production workforce, administering all employee policies fairly and consistently, maintaining a great place to work, building a culture of results-based operational excellence, customer orientation, strong awareness of quality, process orientation and continuous improvement and safety.
- Through performance management and employee development, implement an operations organizational development plan that will meet the site’s current and future needs while increasing employee engagement and career progression.
- Accountable to maintain an effective production workforce ensuring availability of appropriate levels of headcount, competency/skill, and morale; through capacity planning, skills matrixes, and training programs.
- Identify and facilitate resolution of all issues that may impact objectives for Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost. Champion adherence to Moog Systems and Procedures in carrying out decisions within site operations. Coordinate functions to ensure all required support services are effectively and efficiently planned, provided, and utilized, e.g. demand and supply management, capacity planning, production scheduling, materials flow, machinery and equipment, facilities, maintenance, tooling and gauging, production supervision, engineering, cost, lean, quality, etc.
- Monitor key performance indicators associated with the Product Build and Delivery Process Effectiveness Assessment Report (PEAR).
- Assist in implementing a culture that embraces a safety always, quality first approach and drives continuous improvement in meeting customer expectations.
- Manage department budgets for training, Capital Equipment, consumables, etc.
- Maintain compliance with military programs and Moog manufacturing requirements.
Here is what you will need to bring with you:
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical or Business Discipline. Advanced degree in business is a plus.
- A minimum of 10 years of related experience is required of which 5 years is in a supervisory / managerial capacity, with particular focus on translating organizational objectives into tactical terms for a large group of individuals.
- Proven background in lean management systems and process improvement tools, Kaizen, Six Sigma, etc
- Sound working knowledge of all standards associated with AS9100 and Department of Defense industrial supply.
- Ability to manage people, processes, and strategies across two distinct business units (Missile Systems and Defense Controls) including 12-18 active programs with bills of material ranging from 20 components to 1,500 components.
- Capability to translate customer demand into human and equipment capacity. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring we have employees with the right skills focusing on the right activities to ensure we can meet our customer demand and business objectives.
- Ability to manage a diverse and multi-cultural workforce.
- Ability to manage a diverse technology base, including pneumatic actuation, electromechanical fin actuation, and complex turret systems.
- Effective through shared leadership with Supply Chain Manager and Value Stream Managers.
- Ability to access US export-controlled information
