Moog is looking for a Process Quality Engineer to support a comprehensive Statistical Quality Assurance program by evaluating processes to reduce variation in manufacturing.  In this role, you will provide technical expertise to SPC operators, review engineering drawings for inspectability/producibility in a concurrent engineering environment, apply statistical methodologies for the solution of engineering problems, develop sound inspection methods, and provide necessary training programs and plans. You will also provide indepth technical assistance to Manufacturing, Engineering, and Purchasing with respect to inspection, statistical quality control and drawing interpretation.  This position is based at our aerospace plant in Torrance, CA.

As a Process Quality Engineer, you will…

  • Perform process capability studies including statistical analysis in areas of concern or as requested by Manufacturing, Product or Quality Engineering.
  • Coordinate and schedule activities of the Quality Technicians.
  • Participate in concurrent engineering activities to assure the release of inspectable and producible designs using knowledge of basic gaging principles and applied statistics methodology, respectively.
  • Review the need for and provide technical support for design and procurement of inspection equipment upon request from Manufacturing, Engineering.
  • Develop statistically robust sampling plans relative to manufactured parts being fabricated in-house;
  • Develop sound inspection methods for instances where available gauges and systems are not sufficient to inspect production material; keep apprised of new inspection technologies. Work cross functionally with Manufacturing Engineering and Purchasing to acquire new equipment as needed.
  • Provide technical assistance to the Quality Engineering discipline, the MRB coordinator or Quality Supervision in the resolution of manufacturing related problems.
  • Develop training materials relative to Statistical Process Control (SPC) and train Quality Assurance, Engineering, and Production personnel in same.
  • Review non-conformance data such as inspection data, nonconformance reporting, and scrap reporting to determine where investigation and analysis is needed to resolve chronic problems.


Minimum Qualifications to be considered… 

  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in Manufacturing or Manufacturing Quality Assurance
  • As an alternative, a Master’s Degree in Statistics may substitute for the required experience
  • This position requires access to United States export-controlled information

 

Preferred Qualifications Include… 

  • Quality Engineering experience in the Aerospace industry
  • Experience with AS9100 standards
  • Proficiency with statistical, spreadsheet, word processing, and database software packages
  • Specialized technical knowledge of mechanical, electro-mechanical, hydro-mechanical components as well as CNC Machining or Gear Manufacturing
  • The ability to support quality related issues to drive program success; the ability to convey confidence to customers during frequent interactions.
