Project Engineer – Orrville, Ohio

A project engineer is a member of the engineering department who is assigned primary responsibility for project estimation, planning, execution of schedule, cross functional coordination, and risk reduction. The project engineer will report to an engineering Section Head as well as the Engineering Manager. They may lead teams of design/development engineers on smaller projects or work collaboratively with design/development engineers on large scale projects which are assigned active Program Managers.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Collaboration and relationship building with new and existing customers. This includes facilitation and attendance of regular telecoms, project reviews (preliminary and critical design reviews) and ad-hoc meetings. Participate in business development efforts as opportunity and needs merit.
  • Technical review of customer request for quotes (RFQs) and taking lead or assisting in preparation of Moog engineering scope of work. This responsibility includes the estimation of required hours, material budgets, period of performance, creation of technical proposals, review of contractual compliance, and estimation of all required support activities. The project engineer is responsible to ensure consistency of estimation across projects as well as realistic and achievable cost and schedule estimates should work be awarded.
  • Appropriately monitor the schedule and cost performance of assigned projects, reporting to Engineering and Program Management on a consistent and meaningful basis.  Development and coordination of standard project reporting across Engineering Department regular ‘tier’ style meetings. The project engineer also regularly reviews the risk associated with assigned projects and works to reduce risk to successful completion of projects to the maximum extent practical.
  • Assist lead engineers and program managers in coordination and facilitation of purchasing, manufacturing, inspection, quality, assembly, and test participation in cross functional reviews for design development projects.
  • Support of subcontracted manufacturing or test facilities in the performance of prototype or first article work. May include protracted and repeat on-site travel as required for project critical items.
  • Provide engineering input for production readiness reviews prior to release of new designs. Identify and drive to completion of all engineering deliverables for a new design that are required to support other Moog Orrville functions for regular production.
  • Support the lead engineer and engineering technicians during unique qualification or one-off testing performed which falls outside of typical production related testing. Assist in the coordination of test schedule and hardware needs to ensure limited impact to production or development project schedule.
  • Capable of performing a portion of the duties typical to Development and Design engineers due to the fluctuating workload and size of the Moog Orrville Engineering department.
    • These duties would include creation, checking and approving of standard engineering department deliverables (drawings, calculations, design reports, test procedures, qualification procedures and test reports) as expertise allows.
  • The percentage of project engineering vs development/design engineering responsibilities may fluctuate widely based on quantity and mix of workload for the Moog Orrville Engineering department.

 

 

Basic Qualifications:

 

  • BS Degree (MS Degree is preferable) or PhD, preferably in Mechanical, Aeronautical or Electrical Engineering
  • Six years of design/development engineering experience is preferred, however; we will consider candidates with less
  • Self‑starting instincts
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Mechanical hardware design knowledge
  • Good communication skills

 

This position requires access to United States Export Controlled information.
