This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to join Moog’s Purchasing group in Salt Lake City which is Moog Defense Controls and Missile Systems high-volume production facility. The primary focus of this position is to provide purchasing support for the assembly and test of defense products.
Responsibilities:
The Buyer is primarily responsible for the identification of the source of supply that will meet Moog’s requirements for best value, on time delivery, and high quality, followed by execution of purchasing processes. The processes used to accomplish this task must be compliant with the documented systems and procedures.
The Buyer will develop a level of expertise about their commodity and the market. Periodically they will be called on to work with multidiscipline teams made up of Moog employees and perhaps customer representative. They must be able to work in this teaming environment, handle the project assignments, and manage their normal workload.
The Buyer will be expected to complete the procurement process in a timely fashion. This requires knowledge of the supply base, current pricing, and market conditions. They should expect to have a number of these activities happening simultaneously. This workload will require effective time management. Occasional travel to suppliers and customers may be required.
Here’s what you’ll be working on day to day:
- Processes requisitions, which include sourcing, cost and price analysis, and purchase order generation.
- Read and interpret moderately complex drawings and military specifications.
- Develop and negotiate long term purchasing agreements dealing with moderately complex commodities.
- Monitor procurement activity dealing with moderately complex commodities.
- Negotiate and place purchase orders dealing with moderately complex commodities.
- Expedite open purchase orders to ensure on time deliveries.
- Resolve packing slip problems by coordinating between receiving and suppliers.
- Resolve invoice problems by coordinating between accounts payable and suppliers.
- Develop abstract of bid from information obtained from request for quote.
- Maintain and update procurement data through current production management system.
- Review purchase orders for accuracy and completeness.
- Interface with material planning to resolve any requisition problems.
- Evaluate supplier performance.
- Evaluate and establish economical order quantity.
- Conduct cost/price analysis in support of supplier selection process.
- Review purchase order acknowledgements for accuracy and compliance to terms and conditions of purchase order.
- Assist material estimating in request for quote development, supplier selection and cost/price analysis of information contained in the request for quotation.
Here’s what you’ll need to bring with you:
- Ability to access US export-controlled information
- Previous experience working in a mechanical/aerospace procurement environment typically acquired with a minimum of two years experience.
- Possess a bachelor’s degree in a business related area or equivalent experience.
- Positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills.
- Possess talents, ability and desire to learn, work in, and support a structured team atmosphere.
- Possess a working knowledge of drawing interpretation reading, procurement procedures, government procurement regulations FAR (federal acquisition regulation) and DAR (defense acquisition regulation), mil-spec requirements, quality assurance procedures and inspection procedures.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, complex instructions; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations.
- Ability to influence people in their opinions, attitudes, or judgments about ideas or things; to motivate, convince, or negotiate.
- Ability to exchange information with others clearly and concisely; to present ideas, facts, and technical information.
- Ability to identify task requirements and monitor progress toward accomplishment.
- Ability to maintain relationships that facilitate task accomplishment; to cooperate and resolve conflicts; to recognize needs and be sensitive of others.
- Ability to receive guidance and supervision; follow work rules, procedures, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to systematically identify and define problems, evaluate alternatives, and implement cost effective solutions.
Additional preferred experience/qualifications include:
- Federal Acquisition Regulation purchasing experience
- Certification in Purchasing, Inventory Control, and/or Supply Chain Management
- Production/manufacturing experience
- Production planning familiarity
- Lean six sigma methodology certification/training/experience
