Moog Inc. has an opening for a Supplier Quality Improvement Project (SQIP) Engineer at our East Aurora, New York / Site.

The primary responsibility of the Supplier Quality Improvement Project (SQIP) Engineer is to drive continuous improvement of the quality systems of the supply base using the necessary quality and problem-solving tools to ensure sufficient supplier capabilities.  The SQIP Engineer also identifies and prioritizes suppliers who are lacking in performance and leads/supports project management efforts which drive improvements related to quality, capability, and capacity in the technical areas of PPAP, control plans, capability plans and studies, gage design, Gage R&R, DFMEA, and PFEMA. 

The SQIP Engineer also works closely with Moog’s Sourcing Teams to improve, manage, and develop the current supplier base in North America while supporting Moog’s overall company performance goals. This position is responsible for effective execution of the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) disciplines. The individual will work with Suppliers, Procurement, Engineering, Plant Quality, and Operations teams to establish strategic and comprehensive activities which align with our business and customer’s expectations.

Supplier Quality (SQIP) Engineer Tasks:

  • Identify and prioritize suppliers who are lacking in performance and develop plan to visit/assist those suppliers for improvements.
  • Ensures suppliers meet Moog requirements & develop suppliers to meet these requirements as needed.
  • Reviews and approvers Suppliers PPAP’s and audit the deliverables, which can include: Control Plans, Capability plans, Capability Studies, Gage design, Gage R&R, PFEMA, DFEMA, and support or leads project management efforts regarding supplier changes.
  • Monitors Supplier Performance for the North America supply base.
  • Initiates supplier improvement activities based on Global Top 10 quality clinic issues.
  • Interfaces with personnel from multiple Moog sites to resolve chronic or major supplier issues and verify that suppliers understand process/product requirements. Assists sites with quality concerns utilizing experienced problem-solving methods and supports global corrective actions.
  • Provides technical assistance in project phase prior to production.
  • Provides Sourcing teams with Supplier Quality expertise during supplier selection process.
  • Provides leadership on-site at vendor locations to drive team efforts and activities.
  • Provides Supplier with technical oversight and expertise in areas such as Process Development, DFMEA/PFMEA, Measurement Systems, Control Plans, and Error Proofing.
  • Drives supplier improvement via Supplier Quality Improvement Plans and systemic quality improvements, at assigned supplier sites, through the use of tools (SIP, SPC, Lean, Six Sigma) and validates improvements through defined metrics to reduce quality non-conformances.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert, working in conjunction with Site SQEs and Suppliers in 8D problem solving - leading cross-functional teams on major issues resolution at Supplier locations.
  • Provide Quality oversight of product/process change requests from suppliers, ensuring appropriate regulatory review and adequate validation to support requested changes.
  • Prepares, distributes, and communicates periodic supplier performance status and risk assessments to regional leadership as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Required:

  • Bachelor/Master in technical field preferred, or extensive expertise in specific manufacturing processes/commodities such as Castings, Forgings, Gears manufacturing, etc. Example of technical fields: Metallurgical, Industrial, Chemical, Welding, Aerospace Manufacturing Processing knowledge
  • Five years of experience in related fields (minimum)
  • Proven experience in Advanced Quality Planning including familiarity with the AIAG Advanced Product Quality Planning and Control Plans, FMEAs, PPAPs, MSAs, Statistical Process Control (SPC) standards and Zero-defect approach.
  • Lean / 6-sigma training / certification (green/black belt)
  • Project Management qualifications, skills, and proven experience

Travel:

  • Ability to travel up to 25%
