Moog Space & Defense Group in Blacksburg, VA is looking for a hardworking and dedicated Entry Level Machinist.
Here’s what you can expect in this role:
- Perform basic drill press, lathe, milling machine, and grinding operations
- Responsible for the care, use, and application of various turning/plunge and form tools
- Operate shear vise, tapping machine (manual and power), and understand different styles and types of taps and dies (metric and standard)
- Operate various types of power hand tools, grinders, drills, belt sanders, disc sanders, sand, and bead blasters
- Operate and understand power band saw, cut off saw, proper selection of speeds, feeds, tooth size, blade welding, guide setting, and blade replacement
- Completion of required paperwork necessary in the job
- Cleaning assembly and various other tasks as required and the ability to verify work completed meets the requirements of blueprints, standards, and work instructions
- Work with minimal supervision
- Perform other duties as assigned
Here’s what you will need to be part of the team:
- A high school diploma or equivalent, with at least one-year completion of an approved vocational program in Machine Technology or equivalent
- To be self-motivated and have the ability to multi-task
- To be proficient in general math (use of fractions, decimals, simple formulas, and charts)
- To be able to lift at least 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation
- Ability to use Machine Shop Gauges and machines
- Knowledge of blueprint reading and geometric tolerances
- Zero to two years of related machining experience required
Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
- Working knowledge using Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry
- Demonstrated experience using lean manufacturing in a machine shop setting
- Preference will be given to candidates who are currently enrolled or who have completed a related apprenticeship program or field of study
