Machine Shop Manager
Moog’s Aircraft Group is looking for a Machine Shop Manager who is highly motivated with a passion for machining and machine shop operations. Strong leadership with good data analytic skills and relationship and team building will be keys to success in this role.
As a Machine Shop Manager in Aircraft Group, you can expect to manage resources, budgets, assets and coordinate process improvement initiatives in a complex Machining environment. The Machine Shop has over 325 total employees and an annual budget size of $110 million. In this role, you will have four immediate subordinates and influence about 36 other employees.
Our Shop Manager should have very strong management/leadership experience within a machine shop setting and be familiar with CNC and manual material removal processes including turning, milling, grinding, EDM, welding, etc. The ideal candidate will also be well-versed in lean manufacturing, 5S, continuous improvement, kaizen, SMED, value stream mapping, standard work, etc.
Here’s what you’ll work on:
- Drive process improvements in all areas of Machining, Fabricating, Lathe, etc.
- Analyze workforce utilization, facility layout, and operational data, such as production costs, process flow, and production schedules to determine efficient utilization of individuals and equipment
- Recommend methods for improving employee efficiency and reducing waste of materials and utilities (such as restructuring job duties, reorganizing workflow, relocating workstations and equipment, and purchase of equipment)
- Develop, evaluate and improve work processes
- Confer with management and engineering staff to implement plans and recommendations
- Implement continuous improvement activities using lean techniques, such as Kaizen events, Kanban, 5S, root cause analysis, manufacturing cells, etc.
- Recruit employees, assign, direct, and evaluating their work, and overseeing the development of staff
- Provide and train backup staff, perform cross-training and work cooperatively across the site in resource management
- Create an environment of mutual trust and support by encouraging employee participation and building team unity
Here's what you'll need to be considered for this exciting opportunity:
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or technical discipline required
- Minimum 10 years of manufacturing/engineering experience, with 5 years of direct leadership experience. The ideal candidate would be able to demonstrate progressive responsibility in management, which would include:
- setting goals and objectives and developing methods to improve productivity and quality in a low volume, high mix complex machining environment
- progressive growth/responsibilities in a manufacturing environment including building and developing teams
- implementing continuous improvement activities utilizing lean techniques, process improvement, and variation reduction
- Manufacturing and machining process knowledge and understanding are required for this role
- Ability to drive positive engagement within the organization and the employee base
- This job requires access to US export-controlled information.
- This job requires an active US Government security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
